My Saturday started with washing all the baby knits. They need to get in the mail on Monday. Rachael has a shower next Sunday and they need to get there pronto! Back in February, I mailed photos to my parents to take and enter into the the bird photography contest for me back home in Danville, VA. I purchased a photo mailer from the post office and mailed it priority mail. Should have gotten there within three days. It took two and a half weeks. I totally missed the contest. Hope they have it next year because my photos are ready to go!
After getting all the baby knits out of the dryer, I hung them all on the rack to dry further and headed to knitting. On the way, I made a stop at Winsome Cottage in Waynesville. A few months ago, I spotted these Farm Baby products and thought the packaging was adorable! Plus, the ingredients are very similar to what I use in my products. I bought some to add to Rachael's gift.
Here are all the baby knits. I still have a sweater to knit and will hopefully have it done by the time the baby is born. I wrapped all these things up with a few little surprises (Rachael reads my blog!) and packaged them together with the soap for the shower favors. Everything is ready to go!
Waynesville Merchant Association has such clever ideas! Don't know if you remember my post around Christmas time - every store gave out a cookie recipe. One store also gave out binders for all the recipes to go in. Very clever way to get people to visit all the shops. Well, it's Easter and what do we associate with this Spring holiday?
PEEPS!
That's right! Those marshmallowy sugary PEEPS! Of course, there are Peeps for every holiday now so we Peep lovers don't have to wait a whole year to get our fix. I sent my father shamrock Peeps for St. Patrick's Day.
Back to the clever ideas - Waynesville is having a Peep Show. Each store belonging to the Waynesville Merchant Association that is participating is marked with a yellow paper Peep on their door. Inside you will find a Peep diorama. These pictures are from Treasure Trove. Hers was terrific!
Check out this video of the winner and four finalists from the 2010 Peep Show contestants for the annual Washington Post contest by clicking here. People are so clever!
And, YES people, there is a Peep APP for your iPhone!
Finally, I made it to knitting. Today, we met at Wooly Bully in Springboro instead of Dorothy Lane Market. Change of scenery plus we were doing a Knit-Along and some folks needed to purchase their yarn.
The knitter extraordinaire, Sara, led us in knitting Pettine from the e-book, Sideways Shawlettes. I want to do every pattern in this book. The "book" is $25.00 and contains 8 side-to-side shawlettes. There were eleven of us there today and I do believe that nine of us were participating in the KAL. Sara, of course, was busy helping those that needed help and Christy was working on a beautiful stole.
Here are our efforts at the end of the day. Everyone's yarn is different and we had a great time. We've decided that when we finish our shawlettes, we're all going out for dinner and wear our work. Mine is the one in the middle on the left. Others were using Malabrigo Sock Yarn, Misti Alpaca, and Blue Heron.
I brought several yarns to choose from. I made my choice - a Berroco sock yarn with a silver metallic thread through it. Diana and Donna were kind enough to wind the yarns that I didn't choose into yarn cakes. What is it about yarn cakes that is so pleasing to the eyes? The bottom cake and the one third from the top are my handspun. I think the two of them equal a little over 700 yards. Speaks shawl to me.
There was a lot of finished objects today.
Merry with her beautiful crochet butterfly bookmark and a very tiny Amigrumi bunny for Sara for teaching us.
Karen and her pretty ruffled lavender sweater.
Carol and her sheep. Sara and Diana's bunnies from the Crochet-Along taught by Merry.
Carol has a birthday this week and Sara, who absolutely loves to knit shawls and is a master at them (I think she knits them in her sleep), made this hot pink shawlette for her. I do not remember the name of the pattern but it is so pretty. The edge is so unusual. Carol LOVED it!
Sara is also taking pottery lessons. She made this yarn bowl. So talented! She said this bowl was just a test -- it started out as a plain bowl but she made a hole in the bottom by mistake. So, she decided to try experimenting with the slit for a yarn bowl. She said it's too small. I told her I'm sure I had a ball of yarn small enough to fit the bowl. Wink, wink!
We are such a great group! I just LOVE my time each week with everyone! Gets me through the work-week.
Now, here's a recipe from Merry. Thanks, Merry, for sharing! Enjoy, everyone!!
Merry's Lemon Butter Cookies
Beat together: 2 sticks butter, 1 cup sugar
Add: 2 egg yolks, pinch of salt
Then add: 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1 1/2 tsp lemon extract, 2 1/2 cups flour
Mix together. Form balls the size of walnuts. Dip top sides in sugar. Press flat with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
