Well, Friday has rolled around again. It's always welcome in my book.
I passed a barn on Highway 42 this week and snapped this picture. Tobacco hanging in their barn. Is this Ohio or Virginia / North Carolina??
We've started feeding the fish in our pond. We knew we had fish in the pond but never saw them. When we first started feeding them, they were very slow to come to the food. Now, they must feel the vibration of us walking out on the dock because they're there waiting for us. Once we throw the food out, they go at it so ferociously that they even jump up out of the water. Earl Gray watches and doesn't know what in the world to think.
We seem to have lots of Blue Gill and four ginormous Catfish. Andy caught this good-sized Blue Gill and I took a picture of it before we returned it to the pond. The Blue Gill can stay but the Catfish have to go. Andy has tried to catch them but they haven't taken the bait yet. He's even tried shooting them! That makes me think of Jeff Foxworthy and his "You're know you're a redneck...." jokes. In our case, "You know you're a redneck if you go fishing with your rifle."
We're starting the festival season here in Ohio. I'm used to September in Virginia bringing the state and local fairs. Here in Ohio, they have to get all the fairs out of the way by September so they can make time for all the festivals. In our area - say within a 30 minute drive from here and around Dayton - there are the following festivals coming up - popcorn, apple, pumpkin, sauerkraut, potato, etc. It seems every little burg has it's own festival. Each one usually features crafters and lots of GOOD FOOD!
Of course, next weekend is A Wool Gathering and I will be at that bright and early on Saturday. I hope the weather is good - as in no rain for the show. At about 7:30 this morning it was 52 degrees here. Now (12:25 PM), it has warmed up to 71 degrees. It's a beautiful day! I hope it's just like this next weekend!!!
We've so enjoyed all the birds here. Our feeding station is set up right outside the sunroom and kitchen area. Our kitchen table is located in the sunroom so we can watch the birds while we eat. It will soon be time to stop feeding the hummingbirds. We haven't had as many hummers here as we did in Virginia - usually 1-3 at a time. They're so much fun to watch.
Tomorrow is knitting and there's a yoga class scheduled right before that at a local studio that I might look into. I need to get some lifestyle changes going. I've already signed up for a stress management through yoga workshop later this month. Since stress is my middle name, trying to manage it should be interesting. The Popcorn Festival is being held in Beavercreek this weekend. Check out the festival link to find various popcorn recipes.
What's on the agenda for your weekend?
We have tons of "Fairs" in our area too, but none centered around fiber or anything. I may enter a knitting project, but probably won't for fear of it being stolen, despite "guards."
I admire how you've embraced your new surroundings. You've got such a great personality, so outgoing and friendly! :)

Wow... haven't seen tobacco hanging in a barn like that for years! Around here, the farmers have all gone to modern methods of farming tobacco... bulk barns instead of traditional tobacco barns ("bacca barns") and mechanical harvesting in huge amounts instead of hand cropped by the handful.
Nice to see some of the old ways still around.

Hi Robin! Has it really been a year already since you settled in Ohio? Wow. Just stopping by again for a visit after a long blog break. It's nice to see posts on all your adventures. Your spinning looks beautiful - such pretty colors. :)

Hi Robin,
Did you know that the last county fair in Ohio is next month in Lancaster? Fairfield County has the honor of being the last fair always held the first week in October.

The tobacco barn looks like something here in NC. Definitely starting to feel, and look, like fall. I love it!
Do try the yoga. It has helped me so much!
Have a beautiful week~~

Hi Robin!
Seeing the tobacco barn reminded me of our driving to your camp so many years ago and passing through all the small towns that depended on tobacco for their living! We had never seen so much in one area! Loved the barn!
Nights have been in the low 40s here....I am loving it! Aspens will turn pretty fast this year I think.

Ooooh, I can't wait for Wool Gathering. It's one of the highlights of my year. Because, you know, I NEED more fiber.
