Judy Carter, rug hooker extraordinaire from Virginia, had a wonderful eye-inspiring display. The display also featured several of her pictorial rugs, a few primitives, and some whimsical pieces.
Elizabeth Black, another extraordinary hooker of animals, told me that the secret to an animal piece is in the eyes. She always started an animal piece by hooking the eye(s) first.
This collection of eyes is all one rug. It was amazing! Do you have a favorite? I think mine is the hummingbird. How many animals can you identify?
This panther was wonderful as was this cat.
I think the fur amazed me as much as the eyes. It liked as if you could just sink your fingers into it. The varied shades of color gave the fur such depth. Really stupendous!
As I mentioned, in addition to these terrific animal pieces, Judy had several beautiful pictorials and a few whimsical pieces. Although, I was mighty partial to her snowmen, I fell in love with this piece of a wool studio.
This piece was SO creative! It grabbed me because I, too, have everything full!!!! Please click on it to enlarge it and enjoy all the little 3-dimensional details. So fun!!!!!
There're still more rug hooking posts with wonderful pictures from the Sauder exhibit to come!
