Is There Such A Thing...

as being TOO happy??  DSCF6668_edited

In my January 4th post, I mentioned that I read about a method of thinning out your stash.  You take a good look at your stash and divide it into two piles - a HAPPY pile and an UNHAPPY pile.  By looking at my HAPPY pile,it's pretty obvious that it doesn't take much to make me happy!

Today, I looked at my stash (yes, it does all fit in one room).

I decided that no one deserves to be THAT happy.

Now, I have 3 LARGE bags of yarn that are first going to KNITTIN' at the LAKE next weekend for $1.00 per skein.  Then, what doesn't sell is going to my mother's knitting group at her church.

DSCF6699_edited (These sheep are in my kitchen - a really cute tile!)

Andy got home last night from Ohio and brought a week's worth of dirty clothes with him.  Today, he hauled several bags to Goodwill and got more sand to pour into the underground oil tank.  He'll leave again early Monday morning.

Our monthly rug hooking meeting was held today in Oxford, NC.  We had a great crowd.  Lots of members and lots of pretty rugs in progress.

To the left is Nancy's Father Christmas.  I love the basket on Santa's back.  She used the perfect plaid or tweed to give the DSCF6700 basket a woven look.

Next, is my mother's rug - Antique Charm.  This is one of my favorite DSCF6703 primitive floral patterns.  The border here could be overbearing but Mom is treating it perfectly - very simply.  I also love the colors Mom has used.

Mom has another gorgeous primitive floral.  It's a 72 inch runner and it's spectacular!  I'm not sure if I've pictured it on the blog.  I'll have to remember to get a picture of it for you.  You'll love it!

DSCF6695_edited Evelyn is working on this gorgeous Oriental.  (There's Mom in the background.)  I simply LOVE these DSCF6696 colors.  This shade of orange with the blue, yellow, rust, and olive green is just terrific!  I can hardly wait to see this finished.  If I was to hook this rug, I would have chosen these colors also.

We have so many talented ladies in our group.  We're looking forward to our February workshop next month.  Jane Halliwell Green (here and here) will be our teacher and DSCF6704 the subject will be pictorials.  Jane and I attended teacher's workshop together and earned our Pearl McGown Teacher Certification.  She just finished writing another pictorial book for Rug Hooking Magazine.  You'll have to watch for this - it will have lots of great tips in it.  I can hardly wait to take pictures at the workshop to show you.  Lots of log cabins, trees, stone walls, etc.  Will be fun!

The floral to the right is being hooked by Catherine.  Catherine is multi-talented.  She hooks, quilts, crochets, etc.  She's always DSCF6697_edited doing something creative.  She is almost finished with this piece -- DSCF6698 just has the outer border - on the outside of the scroll - to complete.

Have you ever seen a purple cow??  Well, now you have!  Pat is hooking this cute piece.  (Pat is the grandmother to Grace - my kitty cat caretaker when I go out of town.)  You can't see them but this cow even has eyelashes!  I love the rooster on the back of the cow!  Too cute!

DSCF6694_edited Now, this next rug is a perfect way to use up scraps.  I LOVE this rug!!!  DSCF6706_edited There's just something about scrap rugs that I really really like!  I think it's the color.  Nancy is hooking this piece and she always does such a nice job.  Her hooking is so even - loop height very consistent.  (That's Betty hooking away in the background.)

I just realized we had such a wide variety of rug styles at the meeting today.  Animals, florals, geometrics, Orientals, and special occasion.  Very DSCF6705 nice!

Well, that's allllll for now!

Such nice rugs! I love the purple cow rug. The scrap rug looks like a fun rug too.

Hi Robin!

Love those hookers and wish I could just pop in to visit and listen to Miss Jane! I know you will all have a great time and learn a lot of stuff! I am working on a quilt much like the scrap rug...in Kaffe Fasset materials which makes it wild and crazy!

I hope that the sale goes well. I was looking at my stash on Friday evening and know it must be hard to give any up so yes, it is possible to be too happy!

Love the rugs - they remind of primitive American art. One could be easily seduced into rug hooking, looking at your posts.

All the rugs are so beautiful; thanks for the photos!

I LOVE the purple cow!
No fair bringing stash to KATL. I don't think I need any more but maybe.......!!!

Beautiful, all of 'em. LOVE the tile too. I was going to sort my stash this weekend too, wasn't I? Well, I think I'll do that just as soon as I finish off this preemie hat. Thanks for reminding me, Robin!

I love when you have the rug posts. What beautiful work. Yikes, I have to make a name tag for next weekend! I keep forgetting...I am doing so much to get ready, cleaning the house is #1 so when my neighbor comes in to feed the cats I don't look like a total slub. LOL

what pretty rugs and such talented ladies. You are so lucky to be involved with this group. One of these days I'll take the plunge and try one.

see you Friday!

I'm totally in love with the scrap rug!! Wish I had the scraps.....
