I was in Durham, NC today for work and stopped by Cozy to meet Lisa. I have emailed back and forth with Lisa and knew she'd be working at Cozy today. Well, I walked in and we realized that we'd already met! I had seen her in the store before. In addition to knitting, Lisa plays the violin and viola. Her blog is aptly named String Theory. In addition to her job as a musician, she works several hours each week at Cozy to support her other string habit. She loves freeform knitting / crochet and makes the greatest little bags, which they sell at Cozy.
Freeform knitting is a great way to use up scraps of yarn. I signed up for a class she's teaching on April 1st and can't wait to learn this technique. She references Prudence Mapstone for her work in freeform knitting. Check out Prudence's blog - Knot Just Knitting.
Here are four more examples of her bags.
While at Cozy, I purchased Cascade Sierra Quatro (Pima Cotton 80%, Wool 20%) yarn to make a baby sweater (see Lisa's blog - she knit this sweater as a shop sample) for my cousin and his wife. They are expecting their second child in April. To go with the sweater, I bought these cute little duckie booties. I'm thinking duck buttons would be cute.
I also purchased 2 skeins of Cascade 128 Tweed in olive green and golden brown. I love this yarn - it's the same yarn I used to knit my red scarves. I love the flecks of color in the yarn and it's so soft -- just a pleasure to knit with. The Cascade Tweed is to knit Margaret's (the Cozy knitting guru and pattern designer) Cozy Cuffed Hat pattern. The hat will be olive with the pattern knit in the golden brown. This is definitely a "guy" hat. Looks masculine and will be a great Christmas stocking stuffer for one of my sons.
Mary has her post up about our knitting weekend at the beach, if you want to visit her blog. In reading her blog, I realized I didn't post pictures of the beautiful yarns from Knitting Addiction and the fiber, spindles, etc. (from The Woolery) I purchased during the trip. I may post pictures of it later or just show it when the items are knit up.
Wait until you hear what's up for this weekend!!! I'll be on the road again!!!!
